Unfortunately, we have had claims around a door-related finger injury more than once. Even with proper supervision, this type of injury can happen quickly to a child.
From an article posted by West Bend, we learn that “The National Safety Council reports that more than 300,000 door-related injuries requiring emergency room treatment take place each year. Children, especially those under the age of four, suffer most door-related injuries that ultimately require amputation.”
Fortunately, this hazard is highly preventable. Read through the article for an exercise you can do to demonstrate this hazard to your staff. And then read to learn ways you can prevent this type of injury (often inexpensively).
